Who are We Wednesdays #3: First Film Production Memories

Hi guys! In addition to using this Who Are We segments to introduce our crew, we will also utilize it to talk a bit about our background and any film experiences that we are able to talk about.

Also note that this feature will be coming on Wednesdays.

On this post we will talk a bit about our first ever film production from back in our student days.

The film was called "State of the Art" and basically showcased a girl walking through Central Park trying to paint the landscape. However at every possible turn she gets interrupted by someone to wrapped up in their phones, video games or computers to have any concern for what she is doing.

The film was shot on 16mm black-and-white film on a Bolex so it had no sound whatsoever. The production crew consisted of Francisco and myself and our cast consisted of a few of our cousins.

Greatest Difficulties?

It was a rather relaxing shoot overall with no major conflicts to speak. But since this shoot took place in late November, it was rather cold. Since we were shooting in the afternoon we had to race against time and thus did not have time to eat or run to a bathroom during the interim. It did not help that Central Park did not have any bathrooms within the area in which we were shooting.

We also struggled with the lack of a controlled environment, particularly in such a busy place as Central Park.

And it cannot be stressed how tough it can be shoot on film. Considering the fact that this was a student production, resources were obviously limited and there was always a concern that we were going to run out of film; this forced us to be very economic with our shot selection. And even then there was a worry that something would go wrong with the exposure.
